Women in Construction Wait List Registration

LEC’s Women in Construction program is an experiential pre-apprenticeship construction program preparing women to begin as apprentices the construction trades.

FOR WOMEN WHO WANT;

  • to make financial improvement as THEIR personal goal
  • to enter the construction industry
  • a program and are able to commit to full-time training
  • to work with your hands
  • to build stuff
  • a ‘can do’ attitude and are willing to work hard to secure a career in the skilled construction trades
  • a program that is tailored to THEIR needs
  • 8 weeks of full-time classroom and experiential training

Introduction and Exposure to Trades which includes learning the apprenticeship process, understanding the sector, site visits, meeting professionals in the selected trades, and learning Trade Essential Skills such as math and communication Hands-on training

10 Health and Safety certifications include:

  • Globally Harmonized WHIMIS,
  • Working at Heights,
  • Workplace Violence and Harassment,
  • Powered Elevated and Work Platforms,
  • Safety Awareness in Four Steps,

Assistance and guidance in securing sustainability in their new career

Program Eligibility
Have one of the following statuses:

  • Canadian citizen Permanent Resident Refugee
  • Not enrolled in full-time schooling
  • Facing barriers to employment
  • Demonstrate the ability to commit to working 40+ hours per week during the
  • placement period.
  • Must be youth 18-29

    *Note: Participants will require access to a computer with a reliable internet to complete some virtual training sessions.

The Labour Education Centre is excited to run Women In Construction. This experiential pre-apprenticeship training program prepares women participants to begin as apprentices in the construction trades.

Empowering Women in Construction: A Comprehensive Program for Trade Employment Exploration

  • Addressing Barriers to Employment for Women in the Construction Industry
  • Introduction to Construction Trades
  • Overview of Various Construction Trades
  • Entry Requirements for Each Trade
  • Understanding the Apprenticeship Process and Sector Dynamics
  • Tours of Union Training Centers, Guest Speaker Sessions with Trade Professionals, and Trade Workshops

Delivered by WiC-LEC Certified H&S Instructors from Ontario’s Workers H&S Center: Accredited as Ontario’s designated health and safety training center

Up to 10 certifications available such as;

  • Globally Harmonized WHIMIS,
  • Working at Heights,
  • Workplace Violence and Harassment,
  • Introduction to PPE,
  • Introduction to Hand Tools,
  • Powered Elevated and Work Platforms,
  • Worker Safety Awareness
  • First Aid,
  • Confined Space Entry and Hazard Recognition,
  • Traffic Control.

Intake process

  • Prior to acceptance into the program, applicants will undergo a transparent application process ensuring equity and fairness.
  • Their readiness for employment and alignment with the construction trades will be thoroughly assessed.
  • Deadlines have been set due to the overwhelming response, allowing for timely consideration and processing of applications
