About the Position

The live-in Assistant Building Manager/Cleaner role maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the building by performing duties as outlined in a cleaning schedule which is dependent on the building's team structure. The incumbent is also responsible for general, preventative and repair maintenance of a single complex or portfolio of buildings as well as apartment units and grounds.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that a superior level of co-operation, service and support is provided to Residents
  • Ensure building cleaning standards are maintained to the highest level 
  • Promptly respond to resident issues and service requests 
  • Perform the routine on the cleaning schedule or carry out tasks assigned by the Building  Manager/Community Manager 
  • Inspect grounds, facilities, and equipment to determine if repairs or preventative maintenance is  required 
  • Comply with proper safety policies and procedures as required (i.e. when using cleaning chemicals,  operating machinery, reporting incidents, etc.) 
  • Demonstrate flexibility, as tasks may change based on building requirements 
  • Comply with health & safety procedures ensuring the use of required safety equipment and identifying unsafe practices and conditions while maintaining a clean and safe working environment
  • Perform general and specialized maintenance and repairs to site properties and surrounding properties under the direction of the Regional Manager or Building Manager 
  • Maintain regular and timely documentation of maintenance activities

Required Skills, Experience and Knowledge:

  • Completion of High School or general education degree (GED) 
  • 1+ years of cleaning and maintenance experience 
  • Flexibility to work on-call on a rotating schedule (evenings & weekends) is required
  • Proficient with use of basic handheld and electrical tools  
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, drywall, carpentry, painting, etc. 
  • Exposure to multi-residential or other related industry asset class considered an asset 
  • WHMIS certified would be an asset  
  • Knowledge of mechanical and HVAC systems would be an asset
  • Excellent communication is required. Ability to speak other languages is considered an asset
