Labour Market Information: Understanding It, Using It
Workshop Objectives:
- to take a realistic but critical look at
current labour market trends, future occupational trends, changing
skill levels, and growth industries
- to become aware of electronic services
available on the Internet to research labour market information
- to learn how to access HRDC labour market
services on the Internet
- to learn about the National Occupational
Classification.
Content:
- Importance of effective labour market
information
- Research methods
- Practice with research methods, i.e.
Internet, directories, career information, etc.
Planning, Self-Assessment and Goal Setting
Objectives:
- to lead a group of participants in conducting
a self-assessment by identifying skills, interests, education and
training
- to explore different occupations by using NOC,
Scott's Directory and other resources
- to understand and set long and short term
goals by designing a plan of action and identifying support systems.
Content:
- Career planning process
- Self directed search
- Goal setting
- Employment action plan
PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition)
Objectives:
- to provide information on accessing prior
learning assessment, the GED, assessing foreign credentials, and
portfolio development
- prepare for appointment with PLAR Coordinator
at George Brown College .
Content:
- Types of PLAR (1. Challenge; 2. Portfolio
Development; 3. Demonstration)
- Assessing and recognizing your prior learning
- Parts of the portfolio
- Writing your chronological record
- “How to access” prior learning assessment
through colleges and universities
